Course Details:

 

1. Catalog Description (i.e. general aim of the course):

This course is the beginning level of this series. It lays solid foundations for the higher level of this course

 (i.e. 102). The course aims to provide learners with both extensive and intensive practice in the effective

 and proper use of the broad and specific listening, speaking, reading and writing skills related to the

 content of the course books. Additionally the grammar course equips learners with the ability to create

their own utterances and use language for their own purposes.

3. Learning Outcomes:

 

Listening Skills:

Upon completion of the course students are expected to :

1. be able to listen to main ideas,

2. listen for specific information,

3. identify stressed words and contractions; and get meaning from context.

 

Speaking Skill:

Upon completion of the course students are expected to :

1. ask for and give personal information,

2. confirm information,

3. give reasons,

4. start and end conversations; and give advice.

 

Reading Skills:

Upon completion of the course students are expected to :

1. Be able to guess meaning of words from context

2. Identify main ideas.

3. Make predictions.

4. Follow text directions.

5. Identify essay organization.

 

Writing Skills:

Upon completion of the course students are expected to:

a. Use There is/are correctly.

b. Use To be+ complement.

c. Use Capital letters and punctuation marks where appropriate.

d. Use Going –to for expressing the future.

e. Write synopses.

f. Use Quotation marks appropriately.

g. Use Pronoun reference appropriately.

 

Grammar Competency:

Upon completion of the course students are expected to use the following grammatical structures

 with focus on both form and meaning:

1. the simple present tense of be;

2. To Be: It & There,

3. the past tense of be;

4. the simple present;

5. the simple present: wh-questions,

6. the present continuous; the simple present and present continuous

Upon completion of Vol. 1 & 2 of this book students will be familiar with academic related subjects such as:
